Oakland HOPE is a Volunteer-driven, Faith-Based Food initiative following in the footsteps Focus Hope Detroit but serving hungry families, seniors, and veterans in Oakland County. Oakland HOPE has a sustainable and replicate-able model through the sales of our Thrift Store which is the funding mechanism for our entire ministry.
Oakland HOPE was formed in 2013 because we believe hunger is unacceptable. As you know whether it is crime, abuse, poor school performance or more ER visits food insecurity is often at the root of many larger issues. Oakland HOPE is located at 20 E. Walton Blvd. at the corner of Walton and Baldwin in Pontiac. We are Oakland County’s largest Client Choice Food Pantry. Unlike most food pantries Oakland HOPE is a full grocery store with fresh fruits, veggies, canned goods, breads, reach-in freezers filled with chicken, pork, beef, ribs, salmon, Italian sausage, frozen veggies, protein rich items like milk, yogurt, butter, eggs, humus, bag salads, desserts, fresh cut-up fruit and sometimes dog and cat food too. Oakland HOPE is a hub for Gleaners, Forgotten Harvest and Focus: HOPE, Detroit. Oakland HOPE is providing 60-80 lbs. of free groceries weekly to thousands of hungry families, seniors, and veterans each month.
In 2020 over 1 million pounds of food moved through Oakland HOPE and out into the community, but MORE funding is needed to meet the unmet food needs of Oakland County residents. Due to COVID, the numbers of people who are food insecure and in need of food grow daily.
Purchasing food pantry staples on the commodities market has become a necessity and allows us the opportunity to stabilize our pantry staples to be more consistent and secure more nutritious food daily for more families.
